Iceland Backcountry Adventure Ride from Selfoss to Reykjadalur Hot Springs

When in Iceland, do crazy stuff. Five days after racing The Rift Race 2024 and contracting what most likely was COVID, the plan was made to explore the beautiful countryside around our Airbnb in Selfoss by bike and make our way over to Reykjadalur Thermal Bathing Pools near Hveragerði. But as usual, why take the direct route when you can take the scenic route?
"Careful" planning on RWGPS and Strava ensured that my route would be perfect. Heh. In actuality, this was more like an episode of The Impossible Routes by JB and Vegan Cyclist. But isn't that what makes something epic? So, let the fun begin!

Well, along with hundreds of other fools, we did this on Saturday to benefit the Harrisburg Area Special Olympics! Thanks @doverareaschooldistrict6615⁠ and the group of dedicated people who work with these kids and for braving 20 degree wind temps and below 30 degrees water temps. Also, thanks to all of the volunteers who helped in the water and on land.

This is a short but challenging segment that I created close to my home as a finishing push on my 60 mile commuting days. But then some young punks started pushing the top time until it just became ridiculous. So that makes it just about perfect to reclaim my backyard segment. Or die trying. Get of my lawn, you whippersnappers!

Snowstorms are fun. But in South Central PA it often turns to sleet and freezing rain. Not so fun on two wheels but hey, we'll ride anything. On a positive note, my Lake Cycling MXZ400 winter boots were just amazing. My feet were warm and dry, even in rain and wet snow.
